Recently, I heard, on the radio, Paul Harvey, or something, that the trend, toward taller , and taller Americans, has peaked, and is going the other way now. We are not getting taller, on average, but shorter, partly due, to so many short immigrants, but, that was not the only reason. At the place, I have been working lately, this report, was validated. Very few people, except a few, are over five foot five. The few six feet, or over, feel like giants!

Well being above 6 feet will make one seem tall anywhere... I'm 6'5 living in Denmark with viking in my blood =P
Even here i come off being way taller than most other people. I have Norwegian roots and they are a bit taller in average as far as i know - most Americans I've met was pretty tall aswell, atleast the male ones.
So don't feel bad dude, being tall is a blessing - not a curse. Use it to boss small people around ^^

Five ten, What a sad situation! If this keeps up, and it appears it will, we will be a nation of mostly obese, with a minority of skinnies, and average. Sometimes, when I hear of impending pandemics, and crop failures, storms, I think we are being fattened , only to be greatly thinned, by things to come. Anyway, it makes for far worse health, and the scenery is blighted.

The average American height may be going down, however, the average American weight is going up, even for children. It is estimated now that 40% of all children in the U.S. are overweight. 40%!!

That's crazy!!! I was just saying to some friends that I think Canadians on average must be taller. I'm guessing all our Viking blood! lol Maybe you should all come up North more often. Party in Canada!!! :)

SuzieQ, Thanks for the reply. Almost all of my friends, all of my life, have been short, or average. Where I was just working, I got constant jabs, or sincere questions about my height. I really do not feel that tall! It is the the others, who may be the odd! I had to leave that job, because it was really leaving me in foot, knee, back, and neck pain, not the ideal, for a tall person. My friend, who also works there, has little problem, and doesn't see my point. Oh well, I told him, that if he were this tall, he would understand. I really believe, that it is what is inside that counts most, but even Dr, Laura said, what's on the outside matters, too. Your comments are always interesting. My mother's reatives were tall. I hardly knew any of my dad''s relatives. German-Irish! Volitile at best!
